Member Spotlight - Susan Romano

Susan A. Romano is a partner with French & Casey, LLP, having joined the practice as an associate in 2001. Prior to her association with the firm, she worked in-house defending claims for a major New York City privately held corporation. Ms. Romano also worked with a well-known insurance defense litigation firm.
Ms. Romano earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Albany Law School of Union University in 1996, and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. In addition, she graduated cum laude and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University.
She has more than 15 years of civil litigation experience, in particular, she has expertise in the areas of construction, premises liability, sports and recreation, personal injury, contract disputes, products liability disputes, insurance coverage, and employment discrimination. She handles a variety of complex matters involving major construction projects in the NYC metropolitan area. Ms. Romano also assists clients in evaluating contractual issues and implementing strategies to reduce liability.
Ms. Romano is a skilled neutral and advanced trained mediator. She serves on the Mediation Panel of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, as an Arbitrator for the New York Civil Court, and on Mediation Panels for Amicus, LLP. Ms. Romano has conducted numerous mediations and arbitrations, and works diligently for each client to ensure that the objectives of the settlement are reached fairly and as efficiently as possible.
Ms. Romano shares French & Casey’s commitment to mentoring its junior associates and works with them to hone their skills and develop their unique talents. Ms. Romano takes pride in handling matters with professionalism and concern.
Ms. Romano has been a member of DRI and the Women in the Law Committee since 2010, and serves as the Alternative Dispute Resolution SLC Liaison to the WITL Committee; she is also a member of DRI’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. Additionally, Ms. Romano is a member of the following organizations: New York State Bar Association. – Dispute Resolution Section; New York State Dispute Resolution Association; New York Women’s Bar Association; Association of Arbitrators; Subcontractors Trade Association; Grasmere Civic Association.
When not litigating, Ms. Romano travels a great deal, and her appetite for adventure has taken her to exotic locations like Peru, Australia, and Costa Rica. She also enjoys playing tennis, and she and her sister have recently started competing in “adventure races,” but Ms. Romano never misses an opportunity to relax on the beach. In terms of upcoming trips, Ms. Romano is looking forward to attending DRI’s Annual Meeting in October.
