New DRI Small Firm Initiative

By Francesca Sabbatino posted 04-22-2015 02:09 PM

DRI is seeking to set up a new community aimed at the small firm practice. As part of that initiative a Small Firm SLG has been established and we are creating a virtual resource center that will reside on that community page. Our working group has identified three areas on which we will focus for the initial roll out of the resource center, namely: Law Practice Management, Technology and Emerging Issues. We are now preparing to build the content for these areas and are still actively looking for people who are interested in getting involved in this effort.  We could use help in each of the three areas of focus and are open to additional ideas.  So far, these are the folks who have volunteered on this project, as you can see its a group of dynamic folks and we would love to have you join us, as my mother says, many hands make light work!

One of the areas where the Small Firm Initiative seeks to provide resources specifically to small firms is to collect ideas and information to deal with significant issues that arise in the life of the small law firm as a business. Succession planning is one of those topics. I would be very interested to know from any of our committee members whether they have come across a buy out agreement specifically tailored for a small law firm that takes into account the financial reality that a retirement in a small firm can have a disproportionate effect on the practice.
