Kathryn A. Regier, a Shareholder at Schlee, Huber, McMullen & Krause, P.C. in Kansas City, Missouri, defends companies in matters involving fire, explosions, carbon monoxide exposure and other incidents in fatality, serious injury, and high dollar property damages cases across the country.

In addition to defending companies in litigation matters, Ms. Regier consults with companies on warning, training and safety measures as part of risk management efforts designed to reduce the likelihood of incidents that could lead to litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Regier developed extensive civil litigation experience in various matters, including defending companies in product liability, tort and personal injury, contract, employment, and insurance defense matters.

Ms. Regier joined DRI and the WITL Committee in February 2012.  Her initial WITL contact was the 2012 Sharing Success Seminar: “I was intrigued by the Seminar brochure, including all the presentations and networking activities listed, so I headed to Arizona to see for myself what the WITL Committee was all about,” says Ms. Regier. “It was a fantastic experience that opened my eyes to all the great things about the Committee.” While at the 2012 Seminar, she joined the WITL Publication Subcommittee and volunteered to edit and write articles; she regularly contributes in-house counsel profile articles to the Committee’s “Sharing Success” Newsletter. Ms. Regier is also the 2013 Vice-Chair of the WITL Mentoring Committee, and participates on the WITL Seminar Marketing Committee.

In line with her experience on the Publications Subcommittee, Ms. Regier is co-editor in chief of WITL’s first e-book, Women Rainmakers: Roadmap to Success, scheduled for publication in October in time for distribution at the Annual Meeting. Having been involved with the Committee for more than two years, Ms. Regier feels privileged to have met and remained in touch with the best of the best women attorneys across the country.

Ms. Regier is a member of the Missouri, Kansas, and California bars, and was named to the Kansas City Business Journal’s “Best of the Bar” in 2012. Besides DRI, she is a member of various professional associations, including the Kansas Women Attorney’s Association, Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, and the Johnson County Bar Association.

When she is not handling fire and explosion claims, Ms. Regier handles another type of fire – she is a Certified BBQ Judge through the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS)! After learning about how fun it is to be a BBQ judge from a client, she and her husband went through certification training; they like it so much that they are working on becoming Master BBQ Judges. Ms. Regier is also an avid gardener, with some of her finest hours spent in the sunshine, playing in her garden and yard.
