
Geneau Thames, a partner at Niles, Barton & Wilmer in Baltimore, Maryland, litigates cases in both federal and state courts throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia. Her practice is devoted solely to litigation, concentrating in general liability, professional liability, property insurance law, related first party insurance coverage matters, and commercial litigation.
Ms. Thames’s professional liability practice is focused on defending professionals, including, insurance agents and brokers, attorneys, corporate directors and officers, real estate professionals including agents and brokers, and other similarly related professionals, in errors and omissions, malpractice, and breach of fiduciary duty actions. Ms. Thames’s insurance coverage litigation practice focuses on substantively reviewing insurance coverage under a myriad of insurance policies, including personal, business, commercial, inland marine, and professional lines of coverage. Her experience further includes first-party claims and fraud investigation.
Ms. Thames also serves as the firm’s Hiring Partner and manages a committee to evaluate and examine potential Associates for hire. She co-chairs the firm’s Women’s Committee and is a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee.
Ms. Thames joined DRI in 2005. She serves on the Professional Liability, Insurance Law, Diversity and Women in the Law Committees for DRI. She has been a tremendous asset to the Women in the Law Committee: Ms. Thames hosted networking events in her area, assisted with WITL Bingo at the 2013 Annual Meeting, and is working to develop a regular Baltimore Chapter of the WITL Committee! Beyond DRI, Ms. Thames has been named to the Maryland Super Lawyers Rising Stars list as one of the top up-and-coming attorneys in Professional Liability for 2010 - 2013.
Outside of her practice and “legal life,” Ms. Thames is very involved with PTA meetings and homework, and spends time on football and field hockey fields, at swimming pools, and at volleyball and basketball courts cheering on her three children. She generally has a passion for all sports, but especially enjoys basketball: together with her husband, Ms. Thames helps run a spring AAU basketball program for young boys.
